Coal Mine Canyon, a beautiful remote site on the edge of the Painted Desert located on a Navajo Reservation

Named for the seams of coal that run through it

Trails are steep and rugged.

Horseshoe Bend – a natural feature of the Colorado River is a must see in the area even though it is very touristy.

Stud Horse Point, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on western shore of Lake Powell – many cute and interesting rock formations. What do you think this is?

Is Buddha surveying the landscape?

A drainage area of Lake Powell

Grand Staircase – Esclante Toadstools, formed when softer rock erodes away leaving a pedestal with a boulder on top

A smaller toadstool

Hiked out at 2 in the morning to see the toadstool with the Milky Way in the background

Wire Pass Trail, Coyote Buttes, a section of the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, heading out to go arch hunting

We found the great white whale, Moby Dick!

Flame Arch, note the double arch

Buckskin Gulch in Paria Canyon, just south of Grand Staircase Escalante

Soon left the trail to find unusual formations of Endmaier’s Secret, such as brain rock and rope rock

Delicate shelves of lace rock

Nature is a master sculptor!
